So Exciting!!! Yoga new to APS 2020-2021.

This year Audubon Park is excited to announce that we will be implementing Yoga in the Special Area rotation for elementary! Yoga has been proven to have a positive effect on children, including their focus, stress-levels, and overall happiness. Each class will focus on connecting our mind, body, and breath through a series of fun and engaging activities that incorporate yoga poses and mindfulness concepts. By practicing yoga postures, students' bones are brought into alignment and muscles are strengthened, stretched, and relaxed. Students' blood is oxygenated, helping to boost the nervous system and improve circulation. Yoga postures also promote flexibility and release tension throughout the body. The students will learn about the importance of breathing and will practice a new breath work exercise each month.

The curriculum will encompass PE standards, as well as Health standards, to fit the social emotional needs of our students. We will be covering many themes including kindness, compassion, generosity, self-awareness, self-care, and positive communication. Students will also be learning about Mindfulness. Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware of where you are, what you are doing, and how you are feeling without any judgement. The students will be exposed to a new mindful practice towards the end of each yoga class.

I am looking forward to this new program and all of the benefits for our students!
