Battle of the Books Club will meet weekly on Tuesdays (Grades 3-5) from 3:00pm - 4:00pm and Thursdays (Grades 6-8) from 8:00am - 8:45am in the Media Center beginning September 12 and September 14. Although there is no cost for the club, students might need to purchase books or check them out from the local public libraries if they are unavailable from the APS Media Center or eBook databases (Sora, Overdrive, etc.).
Club Timeline:
September 2023 - January 2024
Students read one Sunshine State Book (books not provided) per week at home. The club will meet weekly to discuss each book and play games/make crafts based on the characters, setting, and plots.
January 2024
Students tryout for the Battle of the Books team by completing comprehension quizzes. The 6 students with the highest scores will be invited to join our Battle of the Books team and participate in the county wide competitions.
January 2024 - April 2024
The competition team will continue to meet and prepare for the county wide competitions. Club members who do not make the competition team are still welcome to attend meetings and help the team prepare for battle.
April 2024
The county will host two battles: one virtual and if we advance, one in person battle. These battles are typically held at local high schools. Team members must provide their own transportation to the in person battle.
